Abstract

The teaching and learning process of team sports should involve the development of cognitive skills through the learning of tactical concepts or principles. Tactical understanding in these sports results from a pedagogical intervention that emphasizes the assimilation of tactical concepts or principles, promoted by meaningful learning. Given this context, the objective of this theoretical analysis is to present pedagogical principles for meaningful learning in team sports games. To this end, the assumptions about meaningful learning based on classic works of cognitive and educational psychology are introduced. Subsequently, the pedagogical principles for meaningful learning in team sports are presented, based on the relationship between classic works and empirical studies in Sport Pedagogy, namely: establishing a relationship between new knowledge and previous knowledge, providing opportunities for potentially meaningful activities and helpful in the transfer of concepts. It is believed that the proposed principles can guide the pedagogical practice and training of teachers working in teaching team sports games, as well as guide for future studies on teachers’ knowledge in relation to conceptual issues.
